She has been eying that old house near her apartment for years, it was a beautiful house for sure. If only she had enough money to buy and maintain it.
That envelope slipped into her mailbox changed every thing.
Someone “anonymous” has gifted that house to her. On condition that she will have to live there. No renting or selling.
She climbed the stairs of the old building with beating heart, like a lover who is meeting her beloved after waiting for months.
The door squeaked when she pushed it open. The house was covered in dirt and cobwebs, it took her a week to clean it up fully, make it habitable. Then she moved in.
She was happy like a little girl, exploring each and every room of the house… sorry her home!
Late at night she woke up. Someone was sitting in her room, half-hidden in the darkness.
“Did I wake you up? Sorry!” a male voice made her jump out of bed in a single motion. She was in her fifties but that did not meant a male intruder wont murder her!
“Please don’t be afraid!” he begged.
She looked around her, the door was locked from inside, she could see that from her bed, windows were grilled… from where did he slipped in?
He stood up and she realized from where. She could see through him.
She was shaking when he reached her.
“I wont harm you!”
She looked up and was convinced, she has not seen such kind face in her whole life.
“I saw the desire in your eyes when you looked at my home, whenever you walked by.” the ghost said. “I saved it from promoters, who tried to evict me by hook and by crook. They won. I died here, after that it has been my job to scare them out of the premises, whenever they try to touch the boundary gate.”
“It will be great to have someone as a company, a living person I mean!”
“OK!” she said, gathering her wits, “But no sitting in bedroom when I am sleeping. Are you crazy?”
“Sorry!” he said.
“Good, from tomorrow you can meet me when I am awake.” she smiled gently.
She hoped that he went out of her bedroom.
